pinned quilt

Taking a little break before diving into quilting this thing. This is my second attempt at pinning. After my first go, I tried running my machine over the layers only to make a big puckery mess. I then removed all the pins, ripped out about four lines of quilting, starched and pressed the top and bottom, and re-pinned the layers together again. I’m hoping better preparation of the layers will help cut down on the puckering, but I think it’s only part of the problem. The other part of the problem would be the backing I chose. It’s all lose and shifty no matter how many pins I jab into it, but I’m too far into it at this point to pick something else. Drat.

stroopwafel2Today my absolute favorite thing was enjoying a stroopwafel with vanilla ice cream. My husband, Cory, brought home a box of stroopwafels from his last jaunt out of the country, and they are quite delicious. If you don’t know what they are, as I didn’t before last week, they are a layer of caramel sandwiched between two brown-sugary waffel-type cookies. Almost heaven, but a little too much on their own, I found. The creamy vanilla ice cream was the answer I was looking for. And, in case anyone could possibly have been wondering,  I’ve been eating my ice cream in a mug for some time now. I like to think that it helps me limit how much I eat, but in reality I end up cramming the ice cream down in the mug as far as I can, so who knows. I also like having a handle to hold so that my hands don’t get cold.

I’ve also been hoarding links again. I love finding ideas from around the way to keep in my back pocket for, you know, just in case. And now, I share them with you!

  • Would love to make an “A” and “C” pillow like this one for Annabelle and Charlotte.
  • And lastly, these two posts really hit home with me: The first is from Elsa Mora, who makes the most beautiful and inspiring papercuts, and often has insightful commentary regarding the meaning behind her pieces. The second is from Blacksburg Belle, who is new to me, but I have enjoyed what I’ve read so far on this blog geared towards crafty entrepreneurs.

Thanks for hanging out with me for a bit! It’s always nice to sit and share with friends? And please, if you come across something you think I might like, feel free to leave a link in the comments or shoot me an email!

Spring Sewing

I’m getting geared up for another week of frenzied sewing sponsored by Meg. She hasn’t actually announced her Kids Clothing Week officially, so perhaps I’m jumping the gun a bit, but I’m really looking forward to some time sewing for my girls again soon. I’ll likely make more dresses this time, since that’s what the girls seem to grab from their closets more often. I’m also hoping to try my hand at sewing more knits. They wear so well and both of my girls seem to prefer their comfortable fit over woven fabrics. I’d also like to make some some unnecessarily frilly night clothes, as I know that would make them both immensely happy. :)

The Cowgirl Party

We had Charlotte’s cowgirl party last October, but I never did get a chance show you all some of the pictures.  Pictures always seem to be hard to come by when I host a party, but I did manage to snap a few beforehand:

I was so happy to find these hats at Dollar Tree.  I went with a wide range of colors since we had boys and girls attending.

For drinks we served chilled root beer and “cactus juice” and used burlap to cover the beverage table. The cactus juice is just apple juice with a little bit of green food coloring. The kids loved it!

When the kids arrived they were encouraged to chose a hat (above) and a horse and bandana. I added velcro to the ends of each banana so the kids could take them on and off easily. The horses were another Dollar Tree find!

Another hit was the horse ride-ons we made from hay bales and my kids’ stick horses. We borrowed some saddles for added authenticity and the kids really seemed to like “riding” the horses. Unfortunately, I forgot to snap these before the party, and this is the only pic I have of the set-up.

I also managed to not get a picture of Charlotte’s cake, but here are her cupcakes:

First Snow

We promised the girls snow this winter, which resulted in a three day getaway to New Hampshire:

These Florida girls really lived it up in all of that snow! They made snow angles, threw snowballs, dug snow tunnels, went sledding down the hill, ate icicles, and had an absolute blast the whole time. New Hampshire was truly beautiful and I’m so glad we went there for their first snow experience. I couldn’t have asked for a more wintery wonderland!
