Stripey Socklets

Over the Christmas break, my young niece made the comment that she liked a particular ball of yarn that I had on my nightstand. Of course, I immediately promised her a pair of socks. I made several pairs of slippers as Christmas gifts, so I’ve been slowly building up my confidence in making knitted footwear. And, as luck would have it, she’s very particular about her socks and will not wear anything that goes above her ankle! (Let’s hear it for short socks!)

These little ankle socks were a perfect choice. They’re nice and small, so they knit up relatively quickly, but they also gave me the chance to learn some new techniques. You can see the pattern here, which includes a separate how-to on completing the short rows. However, even with the mini-tute, I still found myself trying to read between the lines a bit on the instructions and I’m still not sure if they look quite as they should. Still, I’m happy with the results and I’m hopeful that my niece will be, too.

I also finished up the scarf for Craft Hope. I really can’t gush enough about this organization. If you haven’t visited their Etsy shop for Haiti, just go ahead and click on over now!

These projects mark the end of my knitting spell for a bit. I’ve been knitting almost exclusively for the past two months and can not wait to do some sewing again!

Be back soon!
